Earth's DVDs - The Highlights

For temple attending Latter Day Saints around the world the news that there is a new temple movie is met with great enthusiasm. Service in the temple is always brightened and renewed by a change up of any kind. It is like the church assigned a script to different teams and allowed them to use their own imaginations and come up with a dramatization of it. They are each different but wonderful.

Long ago, a very wise and well-traveled church friend of mine once commented on the unimaginative nature of the Latter Day Saint congregations she had observed. “If the Second Coming doesn't look like the pictures, they won't recognize it!"

I have thought about that over the years and tried to picture the scriptures coming to life in my mind as I read. There are several events I can't wait to watch when I have access to “Earth's DVDs” on the other side. Imagine watching the story in I Kings 18 where the priests of Baal are calling and calling to their “dumb idols” to consume the bullock on the altar, followed by the prophet Elijah who then takes his turn to call upon the Lord. Fire descends from heaven and consumes the sacrifice, the altar, the stones and even the water in the trough around the altar... EVERYTHING. Talk about thrilling!

We have been given temples on earth for many reasons. They are places of worship and quiet communication with the Lord. They provide service opportunities, refuge from the cares of this world and glimpses of the peace we will feel in the next. If you have the ability, you will not regret going.
